A Guide to Licensing - A Step-by-Step Guide to Putting on a Show

You're ready to licence a show!

Licensing is the process of acquiring the performing rights to a show. A licence is legally required to produce a Disney musical, whether you're a school group or a professional theatre.

Whether you're a seasoned director or it's your first time putting on a show, this guide will lead you through the licensing process with ease.
  1. Step 1

Find the Disney show that’s right for you.

Browse through the many musicals available by clicking here. View featured shows, all shows, or shows for Schools, Amateur or Professional groups.

    Why licence a show?

    • It's the only way to legally perform a copyrighted Disney musical, and ensures your group does not violate Copyright Law.
    • A licence provides you with the full script, score and other materials necessary for putting on the show.
  2. Step 2

    Visit the MTI Europe website.

Before you apply for a licence, we recommend you visit the MTI Europe website to check current pricing information. You can also request a reading to help make a final decision.

    What is MTI Europe?

MTI Europe is the dramatic licensing agency through which Disney licenses the performing rights to our musicals. Once you begin the licensing process, MTI Europe will be your go-to source for information and assistance.

  3. Step 3

    Request a full show licence.

You've picked your show – now it's time to request your licence. It can take anywhere between 30 minutes and 10 working days to process your request, so please leave plenty of time. You'll need to pay the relevant fee/deposit at the time of applying so be sure to have your debit/credit card handy. Click below to get started on the MTI Europe website.

    What is a reading copy?

If you can't decide which show you'd like to licence, consider ordering reading copies. MTI Europe will send you the full scripts to read and help you make your decision. CLICK HERE to request up to four reading copies from the MTI Europe website.

  4. Step 4

    Sign your licence.

If you're applying to stage JR./KIDSshow then you'll agree to the terms and conditions during the application process. Now there's nothing more to do but wait for confirmation and the the delivery of your ShowKit. If it's a non-JR./KIDS show that you've applied to stage then you'll need to sign and return your licence before any materials are dispatched to you.

    What am I paying for?

Monies paid to MTI Europe are used to cover artist royalties, hire materials (or ShowKit materials) and postage costs. Current pricing information can be found on the MTI Europe website.

  5. Step 5

    Explore your show materials.

MTI Europe will provide you with everything you need to produce your Disney musical. Disney JR. and Disney KIDS titles include a ShowKit that includes student-friendly scripts, Director's Guide, piano vocal score, fully orchestrated performance CDs, choreography DVD and a family guide to theatre.

Now it’s time to put on the show!

If you have any questions during the process, we encourage you to contact the licensing team at MTI Europe who will be happy to help.
